Amazing Benefits of Laughter


This morning I was at the gym. My Golds has a Cardio Cinema, which means it’s a dark room with a huge movie screen that you watch while on cardio machines. I enjoy it because it’s easier for me to tune out one movie in a dark room so I can focus on my day, rather than the myriad of distractions, sights, sounds and smells in the open gym.

This morning’s feature “Due Date”. I was less than thrilled. But as I ran and watched the movie, I was moved to laugh out loud, several times. It made me feel good when the people around me laughed as well. We went from strangers in a dark room, to comrades with a similar sense of humor, having a great time.

So what are the “official” benefits of laughter? I did a little research and came up with the following:

  1. Boost Immune System
  2. Reduce Stress
  3. Improve alertness and Creativity
  4. Reduce stress hormone Cortisol
  5. Increase Endorphins (feel good hormones)
  6. Reduce Depression
  7. Increase oxygen level in the blood (giving more energy)
  8. Research shows Laughter can actually alter our perspective make things that once seemed impossible, become possible.
  9. Let’s face it, it feels SOO good.
