This morning I was at the gym. My Golds has a Cardio Cinema, which means it’s a dark room with a huge movie screen that you watch while on cardio machines. I enjoy it because it’s easier for me to tune out one movie in a dark room so I can focus on my day, rather than the myriad of distractions, sights, sounds and smells in the open gym.
This morning’s feature “Due Date”. I was less than thrilled. But as I ran and watched the movie, I was moved to laugh out loud, several times. It made me feel good when the people around me laughed as well. We went from strangers in a dark room, to comrades with a similar sense of humor, having a great time.
So what are the “official” benefits of laughter? I did a little research and came up with the following:
- Boost Immune System
- Reduce Stress
- Improve alertness and Creativity
- Reduce stress hormone Cortisol
- Increase Endorphins (feel good hormones)
- Reduce Depression
- Increase oxygen level in the blood (giving more energy)
- Research shows Laughter can actually alter our perspective make things that once seemed impossible, become possible.
- Let’s face it, it feels SOO good.
